I have tried everything to get it to quiet down, no luck with IPMI and sensor commands, I replaced the thermal paste recently and temperatures are fine, something suggested load based power management but that's not available on either of my machines, I've checked inside the chassis to make sure everything is seated nicely, and still no luck.

Recently, I installed Ubuntu Server after finding a new hard drive (the same version as on my first machine) and started to get things up and running, but the fans are always going full speed, from boot to just running. Due to a lack of a secondary hard drive, I haven't had anything installed on the second 1950. The first one has been running non stop, the fans usually idle very low, temperatures have been fine (checking with lm-sensors), and it's subtle enough to live with, even under load. I've been runnin a small little lab in my room for the past half a year approximately, with a total of 2 PowerEdge 1950s. r/HomeNetworking - Simpler networking advice. r/pfsense - for all things pfsense ('nix firewall)
